Mercy Junortoun Sporting Precinct

Project Brief

The Mercy Junortoun Sports Precinct project aimed to create a state-of-the-art junior sporting hub with irrigated sports fields and other facilities to cater for cricket, AFL, netball, soccer and basketball.

The primary objective was to support educational activities during school hours and foster community engagement during non-school hours.

Managing the project involved coordinating efforts among two clients, Catherine McAuley College and the City of Greater Bendigo (CoGB) with numerous internal and external consultants, alongside a substantial construction and civil contract.

Project Details

The project, valued at $25.8M, encompasses an 11.3-hectare area, including 57,630 square meters of turf, 5,000 square meters of building space, and two outdoor courts.

The design began in 2020 with construction phase of the development commencing in 2021.

During construction phase, installation of drainage was spread every 5 metres, connecting to the newly created water storage basin. All drainage from the sports fields is directed via swale drains and culverts to the retention basin and re-used for the irrigation of the playing fields.

Project Outcomes

The Mercy Junortoun Sports Precinct stands as a significant addition to Bendigo and regional Victoria, addressing the community’s need for high-quality sporting facilities.

RMG’s involvement spanned from the project’s initiation, contributing to the master plan and funding models, to overseeing the completion of the main structure in 2023.

The collaborative approach adopted during the project, coupled with transparent management of challenges, reflects RMG’s commitment to realising smarter, safer, and stronger projects that enhance communities.
