RMG were engaged to provide structural and civil engineering services for the Cathedral Square development, a significant new precinct located beside Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bendigo. The project will transform a previously underutilised site at the corner of High and Short Streets into a mixed-use destination that complements one of regional Victoria’s most recognised heritage landmarks.

The development includes a new contemporary building accommodating diocesan and Catholic Education offices, a parish hall, and commercial tenancy. The project also introduces landscaped public spaces, terraces and improved pedestrian access linking High Street with the Cathedral grounds.

Working within the context of a historically significant setting, the project required careful coordination between engineering design, architecture and heritage considerations. The development balances modern functionality with respect for the Cathedral’s architectural prominence, while creating a welcoming civic space for the community and visitors alike.
