RMG was engaged by Department of Transport and Planning (DoTP) to project manage rehabilitation works of 5km of damaged road between Ballan and Fiskville on the Geelong-Ballan Road.
The project was funded through the Federal Flood Recovery Program after consistent damage since the 2022 floods. The road had been subject to temporary patching and pothole repairs that remediated the risk to road users but were not a long term solution to rectify the damage caused by the flood event.
The road serves as a vital artery for travellers commuting between Geelong and central and northern Victoria. Given its significance, it experiences a substantial volume of commercial traffic. Consequently, it was imperative to minimise disruptions and implement a sustainable, long-term solution to manage the traffic load effectively.
To achieve this, the project team limited the work site to 1 kilometre sections. This method ensured that at least one lane of traffic remained open at all times. Additionally, both lanes were reopened at the end of each day to further alleviate any potential congestion.
This careful planning and execution were crucial in minimising the impact on daily commuters and commercial transport, ensuring a smoother and more efficient travel experience for all road users.
