RMG was engaged by Coliban Water to provide project management services for the Bendigo Water Reclamation Plant Solids Handling Upgrade, a key stage in a broader five year infrastructure program.
This project will deliver a new solids handling facility designed to improve operational efficiency, environmental performance and long term resilience of the plant.
RMG is supporting the delivery of works including:
- A new solids handling facility
- Waste Activated Sludge (WAS) transfer system
- Clarifier scum transfer system
- Imported sludge receival, storage and blending systems
- WAS thickening system
- Aerobic digestion system
- Sludge and biosolids dewatering system
- Dewatered biosolids outloading system
- Foul air capture and extraction system
- Upgrades to HV and LV electrical systems
- Control and SCADA system upgrades
- Integration with existing site electrical infrastructure
- Associated building, civil and ancillary works
The project recently reached a key milestone with the first concrete pour, marking the transition from planning into major construction.
Once complete in 2028, the upgraded facility will:
- Increase on-site solids treatment capacity by 20%, with allowance for future expansion
- Reduce energy use and carbon emissions through more efficient, sustainable technology
- Improve odour control across the treatment process
- Strengthen resilience to climate change and extreme weather events
- Support ongoing compliance with EPA operating requirements
- Increase production of nutrient-rich biosolids for reuse across agriculture, parks and open spaces
This project plays a critical role in supporting sustainable water management and future growth across the Bendigo region.
